Nipsey Hussle posthumously received the 2,729th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his 37th birthday, Monday (August 15).
Several celebrities and friends of the slain rapper came out for the emotional celebration, including Russell Westbrook, Big Boy, Isaiah Thomas, Roddy Ricch, and YG. Hussle’s life partner Lauren London and the rest of the Hussle family were in attendance. London delivered a heartfelt speech as the first guest speaker at the ceremony.
She started by wishing the late rapper a happy birthday before thanking the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for acknowledging a visionary. She also spoke to the crowd about the importance of not giving up on their personal marathons and the hope Nipsey gave their city.
“We’ve always known Hussle was destined for greatness; this honor just amplifies that for us,” London expressed, dressed in all-white. “Nip would’ve been honored by this moment. I think he would want everyone to remember that you can’t get to what’s possible unless you commit to moving forward. That doesn’t mean forgetting where you come from, but it requires acknowledging the reality you were born into and the power you have to change that reality for the better.”

The 37-year-old L.A. native continued and addressed the crowd, hoping Hussle’s star would motivate them.
“So, whenever you’re in the City of Angels, and you see this star, I hope it encourages you to break away from whatever might be holding you back and for you to run your marathon until God says that it’s finished.”
In addition to the Hollywood Walk of Fame star, the Grammy Award-winning artist will be honored with an L.A. metro station. According to the Los Angeles Times, the new Hyde Park Station is located between the intersections of Crenshaw Boulevard with Slauson Avenue and 59th Street near the late rapper’s The Marathon Clothing store.
“After he caught the vision, he understood what the train would mean to this community and his neighborhood and businesses like his,” Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson expressed. “He got involved in making sure this train worked on behalf of our people and helped us express and live out our possibilities.”
Nipsey Hussle’s grandmother was also presented with a resolution from the city of Los Angeles to proclaim August 15th as “Nipsey Hussle Day” in Hollywood before the unveiling of the star.
